Egoless - Insanity Dub

Holy crap! EGOLESS has come full circle if you ask me.

This track slaps you right in the face like a spring reverb!

Egoless is a guy from Croatia that has been producing Deep Dubstep
and recently started exploring the voodoo world of dub; making all kinds of tracks that are reminiscent of King Tubby, Scientist and Augustus Pablo

He even took on remixing Bob Marley, which is very brave considering remixing legends is only worth it if you can actually add some value to what’s already there.

Beatboxing in Google Translate

Beatboxing_with_google_transla

Besides whistling a tune, we’ve all tried vocalising a drum pattern before.
Some are naturally good at it and call themselves beatboxers
However, most people don’t get passed “boom boom tsik”.

Actually, you can trick Google Translate into pronouncing that very phonetic transcription of percussive notes.

Finding the right sounds
Here is how it works. Go to translate.google.com and set the language from German to German.
Now you need to figure out which letter combinations trigger certain sounds.
I found these:

* “bch” is a good Kickdrum.
* “ts” and “tz” function as Hihats.
* “bsch” sounds like a Snaredrum.

And then there is a variety of weird sounds you can explore like: pv, zk, qx, kk.
Basically you need to use only vowels and write a minimum of two letters next to each other to produce a sound. Any single letter will be pronounced literally.

Writing a beat
This is where it gets tricky. You need to understand how a step-sequencer or drum-notation works in order to make patterns.
Not only that, the sounds produced by Google Translate vary in length.

So it’s like working with a sampler that only has sounds of different lengths and you can’t place them on a grid. You
can only puzzle them in-line one after another.

Here is the little beat I wrote.

Have fun!

M.I.A. - Born Free. Now that's what I call a video clip. (directed by Romain Gavras)

Apart from the haunting, filtered synth bassline and speaker-phone vocal samples that keep you on the edge of your seat,
this song comes with a strong piece of visual art directed by Romain Gavras that will certainly spawn controversy around the web and yield many dislikes among the narrow minded who deem anything “racist”.

Gavras seems to work with songs that have daunting intro’s and knows how to add extra tension build-up. He does this by baffling the audience with very graphical, fast paced shots that give you an immediate adrenaline rush.
Towards the end he tops it off with slo-mo scenes as the song reaches a peak filled with high-pitched strings that kind of make you hold your breath.
A little moment of contemplation before it ends with a bang.

Make up your own mind about it and watch the video (nsfw).

The way of filming is rough which suits the action scenes and they know how to pick great locations. Kudos for his DP André Chemetoff (assistant camera for The Happening 2008)

Also check out the video he directed for Justice - Stress.

Let’s start this blog off with a bang: “Flubsig”

This is one of the first dubstep tracks I produced.

A year has passed and this little monster remains the most played track on my soundcloud, counting 2700 plays.
The track is raw, wobbly and a bit dark, but fun at the same time.
I made up the name ”Flubsig” because of the loose jello-like, flappy wobble which reminded me of flubber.

You can grab a 160kbps version for your mp3 player here.

I have used some sound design in the intro, created the synths from scratch and sampled myself beatboxing for some parts of the drums.
The fun part was playing around with Mary Anne Hobbs’ lovely voice, which I sampled from a documentary. You can hear that around 1:50 in the first break.

Flubsig

Flubsig has been used in a Bikini ad by Dutch lingerie brand Sapph. It showed on different TV stations nationwide, several times.

So I changed my posterous thingy

Testing all systems. From now on I will be blogging from this address http://inofaith.posterous.com

Most posts will end up on twitter, facebook and other sites as well.
Now lets see where this message ends up using autopost.
